Bruce returns to Wigan for Figueroa as Hull's Turner waits in the wings

Steve Bruce is planning another audacious swoop on former club Wigan with a £5million bid for left-back Maynor Figueroa. Bruce has already upset former employer Dave Whelan with an £8m move for midfield linchpin Lee Cattermole and is now ready to test Wigan's resolve again with a move for the highly-rated Honduran. Wigan are reeling on the back of defeats by Manchester United and Blackpool and will be reluctant to sell but acknowledge every player has their price. Manager Roberto Martinez, who is offloading Michael Brown to Portsmouth, is eager to bring in Ferrie Bodde from Swansea and Victor Moses from Crystal Palace but would face a desperate battle to find a suitable replacement for vastly-experienced 26-year-old Figueroa by Tuesday. Sunderland, who also hope to finalise a deal for Hull's Michael Turner over the weekend as revealed in Sportsmail, will recoup some funds by selling Paul McShane to Hull and Nyron Nosworthy to Portsmouth.
