Brown hopeful of Pompey revival

Michael Brown is confident that Portsmouth can turn around their wretched start to the season. The 32-year-old midfielder was signed from Wigan last week and made his Pompey debut in Sunday's 1-0 home defeat against his former club Manchester City. That leaves Paul Hart's men bottom of the Premier League with no points and just one goal from their opening three games. But they had chances to equalise against the big-spending Blues late on and Brown saw enough to convince him that Pompey can soon kick-start their campaign. "I think we deserved a point," he said. "We were playing a fantastic team but credit to us, we kept fighting, we kept playing our football and in the end had a couple of chances - it's just a shame we couldn't finish them. "It gives us something to build on and I think with just a bit more resilience and confidence we'll be all right." Next up for Pompey are Bolton, who have also failed to take a point so far, and Brown acknowledges that victory would do wonders for the team's self-belief. "The longer it goes on when you are on no points it's inevitable the confidence starts to suffer but that performance will give us a boost of confidence," Brown added. "Manchester City are a top team, there are some top players and we can build on that. I think there are things to encourage us, definitely. We've got to take the positives from it. "There are some good players in the dressing room, I just think you need a bit more confidence and for the players to pull together, and we'll be fine."
