Appleton keen to keep Thomas

Michael Appleton hopes Eddie Howe's return to Bournemouth will not spell the end of Wes Thomas' spell at Portsmouth. Thomas has scored two goals in five matches since moving along the south coast, but his one-month loan deal comes to an end after the trip to Sheffield United a week on Saturday. Pompey boss Appleton is poised to speak to the Cherries, who re-appointed Howe as their manager late last week, in a bid to keep hold of the striker. Appleton told the News: "We will ask Bournemouth this week. "They had a good win on Saturday so we will start politely asking the questions to see what the scenario would be come the end of the month and take it from there. "Hopefully they have enough in their armoury as it is. They certainly have a big enough squad, anyway. Wes seems to be happy here and he is playing well enough."
