Al-Fahim nears Pompey sale

Portsmouth owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim expects to receive an offer for his majority share of the club on Monday. Al-Fahim only bought the club in August but has since failed to come up with the £50million he promised to pump into the South Coast club. Matters worsened when Al-Fahim was rushed to hospital last week shortly before it was announced that the club would not be able to pay their players on time last Friday. Saudi-Arabian businessman Ali Al-Faraj is expected to meet with Al-Fahim in London on Monday and takeover the South Coast club. It was believed that Al-Faraj - who was also involved in chief executive Peter Storrie's consortium that lost out to Al-Fahim last month - helped pay up to £5million to the Pompey staff that went unpaid last week. "Sulaiman's lawyers are engaged in talks with lawyers for Al-Faraj," Ivo Gabara, a spokesman for Al-Fahim said. "He expects an offer to be made today. "In the best interests of the club he is willing to forego full ownership and if or when an offer is on the table it will be considered on its merits."
