Al Fahim to walk out on Pompey
22 Feb 2010 - 11:54:21
Sulaiman al Fahim has suggested that he is ready to hand his ten per cent shareholding in Portsmouth to the supporters' trust and walk away from the crisis-torn club.
Al Fahim was made non-executive chairman of the Fratton Park outfit when his own ill-fated 40-day reign in the ownership hot-seat was ended by Ali al Faraj's takeover last October.
Al Faraj has since left the Premier League's bottom club and Dubai-based businessman Al Fahim has revealed that he is ready to hand over his remaining shares to the club's fans' group.
Pompey are currently in talks with a South African consortium over a possible takeover and have a matter of weeks to stave off a winding-up order from HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid tax bill.
Meanwhile, on-loan striker Quincy Owusu-Abeyie claims Portsmouth need a 'miracle' if they are to survive in the Premier League this season.
"We still have 12 games to go and who knows what the other teams will do?" he explained, with the south coast club currently seven points adrift at the foot of the table.
"They may slip up. I would love to say we can win all of our last 12 games and come out of relegation but I don't know if it will go like that.
"If we could do that it could be a great achievement, but it's going to be tough. It looks bad, but we can't lose faith. You never know, we could pull off a miracle."
