Al Fahim will keep promise

A spokesman for Sulaiman Al Fahim claims the Arab businessman still plans to refinance Portsmouth. Pompey, who have endured a torrid start to the 2009/10 Premier League season, are desperate for a cash injection after being forced to delay payments to staff this week. Al Fahim, who recently completed a protracted takeover of the club, had promised to inject £50million upon his arrival at Fratton Park in September. However, he has since been rushed to hospital in Dubai with an acute kidney infection, throwing his plans into doubt. Portsmouth fans fear their club could be left in ruin should the finances fail to materialise, but Al Fahim has offered assurances that he intends to have the first instalment of his money in place by the end of the month. "I spoke to Sulaiman Al Fahim earlier this morning and he confirmed he was rushed to a Dubai hospital last night with an acute kidney infection," said a spokesman. On schedule"He is going to be operated on today to get his kidney stones removed. He expects to be out of the hospital and back in a couple of days. Having said, that the kidney infection will take longer to be treated. His sudden hospitalisation will not impact the refinancing or the management of Portsmouth FC. "His advisors are working closely with the chief finance officer of Portsmouth FC, Tanya Robins, to ensure that the financing that he announced to the fans last Friday is delivered on schedule within the next three to four weeks, while the day-to-day management of the club is ensured by the club's CEO Peter Storrie." While Al Fahim remains adamant that plans at Portsmouth will progress without a hitch, chief executive Storrie has revealed his fears at the unstable financial situation currently facing Pompey. "I have to be truthful and tell you that I don't know if the 30 per cent of the £50million refinancing package will arrive with us in mid-October," he said. "So the bottom line is the middle to end of October. I really don't know what will happen if that money doesn't come through. All I can tell you, is what I have seen. "The documentation is in place, but the proof of whether it is all genuine will be if it turns up. Sulaiman says that it will, so I have to believe that it will. He believes it, so let's wait and see."
