Portsmouth boss Tony Adams is keen to snap up left-back Nadir Belhadj on a permanent basis.
The 26-year-old Algerian, who is on loan at Fratton Park from Lens, has impressed in his 12 appearances for Pompey to date.
Adams said: "I'd definitely like to make him a permanent signing if it's possible. I think he's impressed a lot of people. He's impressed me and we're delighted to have him here.
"Hopefully, we'll make it permanent but we'll have to wait and see.
"I watched him for Lens against Lyon last season and I gave my old mate Remi Garde a call, who was at Lyon.
"I asked him why they'd been willing to let him go because I saw the game and he was unbelievable for Lens.
"Remi told me that they'd just got the Italian Fabio Grosso at left-back, but the kid was impatient and wanted to play.
"Remi suggested we try to sign him if we could. I'm glad we did."
