Valiants fill striker void

Port Vale have countered the loss of Akpo Sodje to Sheffield Wednesday by signing Southampton striker David McGoldrick.

The 19-year-old frontman has joined the Valiants on a long-term loan basis until January.

McGoldrick has enjoyed profitable loan spells with Notts County and Bournemouth in recent seasons.

"I am delighted to get him in. He has pace and he is exactly what we need right now," Vale boss Martin Foyle told the club's official website.

"We managed to beat off competition from Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Luton Town which is great for us. He will be with us on loan up until the New Year."
