Vale boss expects tough start

The 47-year-old, who was appointed as Dean Glover's successor at Vale Park earlier this month, is charged with improving on Vale's lowly finish last season and after the opener with Dale, he takes his new side to Bradford and Macclesfield. "Everyone is looking forward to this season and a home game to start with suits us fine," he told The Sentinel. "But Rochdale will be tough opposition as they have been in the play-offs for the last two seasons. "We then go to Bradford who are one of the favourites for promotion, so we couldn't have been given a much tougher start than that. But we are going to be testing ourselves over 46 games this season, not just the first two." And Adams was equally upbeat after seeing his side drawn against Sheffield United in the first round of the Carling Cup, adding: "I supported them and the likes of Tony Currie, Alan Woodward and Billy Dearden were my heroes. "Getting them is a terrific tie for anyone. They will be disappointed they aren't a Premier League team this year but I think they will be up there again this year."
