Tomlinson to continue Vale trial
Adams has admitted Joe Anyon remains "a major doubt" to be ready for the start of the new season as he recovers from the broken leg he sustained in March, leaving just Chris Martin, 18, and Daniel Lloyd-Weston, 17, as Vale's only keepers. Tomlinson, 24, who was released by Crewe earlier this summer, played 45 minutes of Saturday's 3-0 pre-season victory over Newcastle Town but had little chance to prove his worth. And Adams is keen to take another look at him in training this week, with the strong possibility he could again feature against Premier League new boys Wolves at Vale Park on Wednesday. Adams told The Sentinel: "Everybody is aware that Joe Anyon is still out injured. I would think it is a major doubt now whether he is going to be fit for the start of the season. "I am covering all the bases so I had a look at Stuart Tomlinson. He didn't have a shot to save and kicked it okay (against Newcastle Town), but I can't really judge him on that. Hopefully he will be in training this week and we can monitor the situation." Meanwhile, the Vale boss has ruled out a move for fellow trialist Zoumana Bakayoko after the player's agent called for an instant decision on whether or not he would be taken on by the club. Left-back Kris Taylor remains on trial.
