Furious manager Lee Sinnott revealed Port Vale were 'driving him round the twist' after they lost 2-0 at Tranmere Rovers on Thursday evening.
The League One basement club conceded two penalties in the second half at Prenton Park and Sinnott was angry with the overall level of performance.
Vale are now 14 points adrift of safety with just seven games remaining.
"After performing well in the previous two games, this was surrendered too meekly in my view," he fumed.
"I have no qualms at all about either penalty, but I think if we'd applied ourselves more we would definitely have got something out of the game.
"It drives you around the twist. Certain things really do get to me. I just thought we were inept and that is putting it kindly.
"I thought if we stepped on the gas and performed as we did against Leeds and Crewe in the second half, then we had a great chance of taking three points."
