Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott accepts that he is likely to be working with a much-reduced wage budget next season, whichever division his club are in.
Vale currently prop up the League One table and are a massive 11 points adrift of safety and Sinnott is expecting major budget cuts to be implemented in the summer.
He told The sentinel: "We are at a stage at this football club where we have to cut our cloth accordingly.
"We have to be sensible about this. What will be spent next season will be done for a reason.
"It is not to mess people about or toy with people's affections, it is done for the health of the club. The bottom line is the health of the football club.
"Money doesn't guarantee success. It gives you a better chance, of course, but it doesn't guarantee you anything."
