Richards plays down play-off talk

The striker bagged his first hat-trick for the Burslem club at the weekend as they brushed aside high-flying Chesterfield 5-0 at Saltergate. Victory took Vale to within three points of the top seven but Richards is taking one game at a time. He told the club's official website: "We will talk about the next game but that's all we will do. We are not mentioning anything else. "We have been on a decent run but we have had our blips this season. We have back-to-back wins now and if we can kick on from this, things are looking good. Consistency has been the key all season. The gaffer came in at the start of the campaign and everyone knows what is expected of them." Saturday's hat-trick takes Richards' tally this term to 18, and he added: "I set myself a target at the start of the season and I am close. That's all I am going to say."
