    Richards opts for Vale stay

    05 Aug 2008 - 13:21:39

Port Vale striker Marc Richards has finally ended speculation about his future by agreeing a new two-year contract with Lee Sinnott's side.

The 26-year-old had appeared to be on the verge of signing for Cheltenham Town, but has had a change of heart and will now remain at Vale Park until at least June 2010.

Vale chairman Bill Bratt told Vale's official website: "We're delighted that Marc has agreed to stay and play an important part in our campaign.

"Lee Sinnott has set his stall out to improve the side and mount a push to achieve promotion from League Two this season.

"To do that we need to keep hold of our best players and everyone at the club has high hopes for Marc Richards.

"We always wanted him to stay and the improved offer we made is a sign of the club's ambition to move forward."

Richards scored five goals in 32 appearances for the club last term following his transfer from Barnsley.
