Port Vale have agreed a deal to sign Craig Pead on a two-year contract following his exit from Brentford.
The 26-year-old, who can play at right-back or in midfield, opted to leave the Bees at the end of the season, having won a place in the PFA's League Two Team of the Year.
Vale boss Lee Sinnott told the club's official website: "Craig is an important signing for us.
"He brings us experience, both in terms of age and appearances. He has also been promoted from League Two before with one of his former clubs, Walsall."
Sinnott has made a fast start to his close-season rebuilding process, snapping up Middlesbrough striker Steve Thompson as well as Nuneaton Borough's Rob Taylor and Anthony Griffith from Doncaster Rovers.
