Port Vale captain Sam Stockley will not be ready for a first-team return this weekend after a scan showed his thigh injury had still not healed.

The 31-year-old missed Saturday's defeat with the problem but had been hoping to feature against Macclesfield Town this weekend.

Stockley told the Sentinel: "It could have been worse, so I'm not going to feel sorry for myself, but I just want to be out there playing.

"This is an important time for the team. Results have been in and out, but there's a fantastic confidence around the side. We still have a lot more to give and I want to be a part of that."
