Horsfield ready to hang up boots
12 Jan 2010 - 13:08:21
Veteran Port Vale striker Geoff Horsfield has hinted that he may end his playing career in the summer.
The 36-year-old, who is also Vale's assistant manager, has been struggling with a hamstring injury for the last month, the latest in a string of problems that have blighted the former Fulham man's time at Vale Park.
He told the Sentinel: "I've got to consider retirement because I haven't played enough games.
"I didn't want to come in just as assistant manager, I wanted to play football too, so it's been disappointing I haven't been able to stay injury-free.
"In a worst-case scenario, if my hamstring or groin goes again or I keep picking up niggly injuries, I'll review things in the summer.
"It's frustrating because I want to train as well as play in games."
