Adams: Spanking was on the cards

Published: 14 Mar 2010 - 13:43:00

A hat-trick from Marc Richards was flanked by strikes from Robert Taylor and a Craig Davies penalty in a win that moved Vale up to ninth in the League Two table, just three points shy of the play-off places. Adams felt his side's recent displays had not been matched with the deserved results and is now dreaming of a late push for promotion. "When we looked at our recent performances, someone was going to get a spanking," he said. "The pleasing aspect about the performance is that everyone looked on top of their game which is great at this stage of the season. "On our day when we get everything right we can beat anybody. This has given us a platform to build on and we'll see how far we can go. I wouldn't rule us out (of the play-offs) but we've still got a lot to do." Adams also hailed the contribution of Richards, adding: "We believe in him and he believes in the way we play. He's a big part of us and he's a leader. I've never seen the away fans clapping a centre-forward off before so that tells it's own story."
