Young striker goes under the knife
The highly-rated youngster, who went on trial at Everton over the summer, was due to link up with his Northern Ireland Under-21 team-mates this week but will now rest following the procedure.
Vale manager Micky Adams told the club's official website: "James had been having a few problems with his appendix and unfortunately they have had to remove it.
"He will be out for a short time but the most important thing is he recovers fully from his operation."
