Vale to assess Owen

17 December 2010 15:30
Port Vale will hand a fitness test to Gareth Owen as attention at the Burslem club switches back to on-field matters and the visit of Barnet. The reliable centre-back was forced off with a back problem half an hour into last weekend`s disappointing 1-0 defeat at Morecambe. Lee Collins, making his return from over a month out with shin splints, stepped into the fold to replace him and is on standby to do so again if required. If Owen does make it then Collins will compete with Kris Taylor for the left-back berth. Micky Adams has no other injury problems to deal with and will be hoping his side`s football attracts the headlines after a week at Vale Park which has been dominated by takeover talk, boardroom activity and supporters` protests at a controversial Annual General Meeting.
