Vale draw up shortlist

Port Vale have stepped up their search to find a replacement for Micky Adams by formally approaching six potential candidates. Jim Gannon watched Vale's 2-1 win over Burton from the stands on Monday, while the club are also believed to have approached former Carlisle manager Neil McDonald, recently-sacked Bristol Rovers chief Paul Trollope and ex-Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee. Another two un-named candidates have also been approached, but chairman Bill Bratt has indicated he is keeping his options open before naming his new manager. "We're hoping to interview candidates over the next couple of days and it's encouraging there are so many good people out there," he told the Sentinel. "Now we have to appoint the right one. But there are no favourites at this stage because we have to keep an open mind."
