Townsend rules out Port Vale role
Harlequin chairman Dave Ames revealed on Monday an agreement was close which would see the firm contribute £500,000 and become majority shareholder in the process.
Talk was soon rife that former Republic of Ireland midfielder Townsend, who works as a consultant for Harlequin, could be offered an advisory role.
But the 46-year-old insists his media commitments mean he would not have the time for an additional position at the League Two club and any advice or suggestions he wishes to pass on to Vale manager Micky Adams would be done purely as a helpful gesture.
"When I met with Micky Adams after the Accrington game I told him if I saw anything of interest on my travels I would give him a shout - that's the long and short of it," Townsend told The Sentinel.
"People put two and two together but I'm so busy with broadcasting, on top of what I do with Harlequin, I hardly have a spare hour.
"I'm not being paid by Port Vale and the last thing I want to do is get involved with something that would make Micky Adams, or anybody else at the club, feel uncomfortable. But if I see anything of interest I will let him know."
