Adams back on touchline

Manager Micky Adams is expected to return to take charge of Port Vale when Peterborough visit - and changes are likely.

First-team coach Rob Page has overseen the past three matches while Adams has recovered from a hip replacement operation. Page described the home defeat to Rochdale in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as unacceptable and warned the players that their places in the team were under threat.

Liam Chilvers, Chris Birchall and Anthony Griffith could be recalled after being replaced on Tuesday night while veteran striker Lee Hughes, whose last-minute equaliser rescued a point against Bristol City last Saturday, will also come into contention for a start.

Left-back Dan Jones (groin) returned from a month-long absence against Rochdale so Rob Taylor (calf) is likely to be the only injury absentee.

Peterborough will check on Gaby Zakuani and Jack Payne before travelling.

Centre-half Zakuani and midfielder Payne are both nursing minor ankle problems following the 2-1 home win over Brentford in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: "Gaby rolled his ankle and Jack picked up a knock on his. We'll assess them carefully, but I'd expect both players to be fit."

Captain Tommy Rowe was rested against Brentford and will probably go straight back into the starting line-up but forward Lee Tomlin and full-back Kgosi Ntlhe are still absent. Tomlin will be out for a few more weeks with an ankle injury and Ntlhe is away on international duty with South Africa.
