Adams to ring changes

Manager Micky Adams will make changes to his Port Vale team for the visit of Colchester.

Those changes are likely to come in defence after seeing his side concede six goals in the last two league matches. Jack Grimmer, on-loan from Fulham, looks certain to be moved from right-back to central defence, which could mean a recall for Adam Yates at right-back. Daniel Jones may also return at left-back.

Chris Birchall, Louis Dodds and, fitness permitting, Chris Shuker are options in midfield. All three players are like-for-like replacements for Jennison Myrie-Williams, while either Ben Williamson and Jordan Hugill could return up front.

"You make changes, and you give other people an opportunity," said Adams after Saturday's 3-2 home defeat to Swindon. "We have other people who have sat on the bench or have not been involved and have been struggling with their own games. Maybe a break has given them a little taste for it again."

Colchester will be desperate for the game to get the go-ahead having seen their last three matches all fall victim to the weather.

The U's have not played since a 4-2 victory over Carlisle in mid-January, with subsequent clashes against Shrewsbury, Peterborough and Saturday's match versus Rotherham postponed.

Left-back Ryan Dickson is again set to replace Luke Garbutt following his loan recall by parent club Everton.

Forward Gavin Massey will look to return to the bench having overcome a hamstring injury, while fellow long-term absentee Drey Wright is also back in light training after a knee operation but is still some way off being available for selection. Defender Josh Thompson (ankle) remains out..
