Port Vale boss Michael Brown set to give late fitness test to trio

Port Vale boss Michael Brown will make a series of late checks as he attempts to drag the club out of League One relegation trouble by denting Bolton's promotion hopes.

Vale are two points adrift of safety after a run of fours successive defeats, although have a game in hand on their rivals in and around the bottom four.

Skipper Ben Purkiss is being assessed after missing Monday's 2-0 defeat at Oxford - for which defenders Kiko and Andre Bikey were rested - with a thigh problem, while full-back Scott Tanser limped put of that game with a calf injury.

Brown hopes to have winger Jerome Thomas, who has not played since March 4 because of groin and calf injuries, back at his disposal, while youth graduate Dan Turner could be involved after impressing as a second-half substitute at Oxford.

Bolton have no fresh injury concerns for the game following their goalless draw with Bury on Tuesday night.

Wanderers have only scored once in their past five matches and boss Phil Parkinson will be looking to striker Adam Le Fondre to improve on his five goals since joining to seal their automatic promotion spot.

Andrew Taylor replaced Dean Moxey against the Shakers on Tuesday night and will be hoping to retain his place in the starting XI.

Bolton were comfortable winners in the last meeting between the two sides, coming out 3-1 victors in October.
