Port Vale to check on Anthony Grant before Barnsley clash

Port Vale boss Rob Page will check on Anthony Grant before picking his team to face Barnsley.

Grant missed the draw at Shrewsbury through illness and Page hopes the midfielder can recover in time for Monday's match.

Striker Ajay Leitch-Smith will continue to be assessed after sitting out the last four games with a hamstring injury.

Byron Moore and Ryan McGivern lost their places in the team at the weekend and will be vying for recalls while Chris Birchall, Adam Yates and Theo Robinson are also options for Page.

Barnsley travel to Vale Park with no new worries and boss Paul Heckingbottom should have an unchanged squad.

Striker Marley Watkins (calf) and defender James Bree (hamstring) are still out while midfielder Lloyd Isgrove (Wales), striker Ashley Fletcher (England Under-20s) and defender Callum Connolly (England Under-19s) remain away on international duty.

Heckingbottom's options are limited by those absentees but he is able to make some changes to his side should he wish.

Teenager George Smith and Lewin Nyatanga provide alternatives in defence and Jak McCourt could come into midfield.
