Sam Kelly comes off bench to edge Port Vale past Bury

Port Vale's impressive home record continued with a 1-0 win over Bury courtesy of a 57th-minute strike from second-half substitute Sam Kelly.

Vale dominated the opening 45 minutes but apart from Byron Moore's fourth-minute effort which came back off the upright, they rarely threatened the visitors' goal.

After a slow start to the second 45 minutes, the home side gradually got back on top and got their reward when Kelly finished in style following a dazzling run.

Kelly, who had come off the bench at the beginning of the second half to replace top goalscorer Ajay Leitch-Smith, did not take too long to put his mark on the game.

After collecting the ball wide on the left, he drifted inside, evading a couple of challenges, before unleashing an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box to beat Shakers goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann.

Bury boss David Flitcroft responded with a double substitution and the visitors began to exert some pressure on the Vale goal, but they finished the game with nothing to show for their efforts.
