Pope praying for Valiant victories

Striker Tom Pope has called for Port Vale to target 18 points from their remaining six games and claim with it a top-three finish. The Valiants slipped out of the play-off positions with Saturday`s 2-0 defeat at leaders and champions-in-waiting Chesterfield. They are now down in ninth place, one point off the play-offs, while six adrift of the automatic promotion spots. But on-loan Pope, optimistically, insists a maximum haul from the club`s remaining six fixtures would clinch League One football next season. "The lads all know how good they can be and what it is like to be top of the league," he told Vale`s official website. "We have just got to go out with the mentality that if we win our last six games then we will be promoted, it is as simple as that. "Stevenage and Torquay will be difficult places to go and Barnet will be fighting for their lives - the last game of the season could come down to them being relegated and us being promoted. "We have got six games now and whoever we are playing, if those 18 players on a matchday put in a shift then there is no reason why we can`t be in those top three positions come the end of the season."
