Owen unclear on Vale future
Port Vale centre-half Gareth Owen admits he is unsure whether he will be at the club next season.
The 28-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, has been verbally offered a two-year contract to stay at Vale Park but has not yet had anything in writing.
Contract talks could be held up by the fact the Valiants don't have a manager at present, but with Owen suggesting that Crewe are interested in securing his services he is keen to sort out his long-term future.
He told the thisisstaffordshire.co.uk: "I've been offered a contract verbally, but I've not seen anything in writing. We're still to agree terms - and initially I was only offered a 12-month deal before that was extended to two years.
"I know the club have off-field things to sort out, but as a player you just want to feel wanted. Nothing's been said, and I've heard a rumour that new contracts won't be sorted out until a new manager comes in. From the club's perspective you think that's fair enough, but as a player I need to find out where I'm going to be playing.
"To me football is not about how much money I earn, and I'd even take a pay cut as long as I knew things were right and would be better in the long-term. I'm aware of the interest from Crewe and that's flattering, plus it's good to have other irons in the fire."
