The striker, who left Orient at the end of last season, trained with the Valiants on Tuesday and played in Wednesday night's reserve-team defeat at Macclesfield, scoring the only goal in the 4-1 loss.

But after the game Adams revealed Gray would not be coming to Vale Park on a permanent deal.

"We've had at look at Wayne and don't feel he is the right option for us," he told the club's official website. "I'd like to wish him the very best of luck for the future."

Meanwhile, fellow trialist Jason Jarrett, who also featured for the reserves at Moss Rose, will continue to train with the club.
