Shrimps unable to break down Valiants

Morecambe and Port Vale shared the spoils in an entertaining albeit ultimately goalless encounter at the Globe Arena.

Vale started brightly and went close after just 20 seconds when Louis Dodds ran straight through the Morecambe midfield and saw his shot deflected inches wide of a post.

From there on the game belonged to Morecambe, who played some excellent football. Jack Redshaw and Danny Carton both fired wide before Jordan Burrow went within inches of giving the Shrimps the lead when a punch from visiting goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson hit the striker but rebounded just past a post.

Tomlinson had to react sharply to block a close-range effort from Burrow and Gary McDonald shot just over from 25 yards as the hosts ended the half on top.

Morecambe continued their dominance in the second half, with Redshaw missing a golden opportunity to give his side the lead just before the hour mark when he headed straight at Tomlinson from an excellent Izak Reid cross.

The same duo combined to forge another golden chance 13 minutes from time as Redshaw failed to get a telling connection to another inviting cross.

Vale threatened in the final stages when Sean Rigg's shot flew just wide before Morecambe almost snatched victory in stoppage time, Craig Curran heading a Joe Mwasile cross narrowly wide.
