Injury scare for Richards

Port Vale striker Marc Richards suffered a dead leg as his side salvaged a late 1-1 draw in their pre-season friendly at Newcastle Town. Richards was forced off after just 13 minutes following a clash with Town goalkeeper Danny Reed, but he should be fit to play in Vale's first friendly in Ireland next week. Kyle Diskin's opener put the hosts in front midway through the first half before Vale levelled matters three minutes from time. John McCombe's effort looked to be going wide but deflections off substitute goalkeeper Greg Smith and defender Ryan Dicker took it into the net. Manager Micky Adams told the club's official website: "We got out of the game what we came for, and that was more fitness. "I thought we looked a bit lethargic during the first half and at times we didn't pass the ball as well as we should, but we picked it up in the second half, but you could see how tired our players were." On Richards, he added: "He suffered with a dead leg but it's just a matter of icing it down and he should be fit for Tuesday's game against Athlone Town."
