Horsfield in preparation vow

Port Vale assistant manager Geoff Horsfield insists his players are preparing the same way they would for any game despite the freezing weather conditions putting Saturday's trip to Morecambe in doubt. With the training ground pitches unplayable, manager Micky Adams and Horsfield have had to mix up their training methods by focusing on fitness sessions in the gym and using local facilities when possible. Horsfield told the club's website: "We will still prepare this week as though we have got a game, because hopefully, if Morecambe can work hard on their pitch, keep it covered and it thaws a bit, we might have a game. "We are going to prepare for that. We have trained on the Astroturf at a school, done some fitness work and we will continue to train and see how it is for the rest of the week. "That is what we always do, prepare as though the game will be on. That's what we did last week, and until the game is called off by the referee, we will work all through the week to prepare to face and hopefully beat Morecambe. "We are keeping their fitness up as well. The players had a couple of days off at the weekend, but they are raring to go and they will be chomping at the bit on Saturday if the game is on."
