Grew sees play-offs slip away

Port Vale caretaker manager Mark Grew was understandably left deflated after his side's play-off hopes were effectively ended by a 1-0 defeat at Stevenage. Lawrie Wilson found the bottom right-hand corner with 18 minutes to go to secure the points for Graham Westley's side. Grew said: "It's disappointing because we felt we should have got something from the game. We had plenty of chances but unfortunately we just couldn't stick the ball into the back of the net. "Their keeper has made a couple of good saves and we could have equalised late on, but unfortunately we weren't clinical enough. It's been a good season though and the players and the staff have got to be very pleased with what we've achieved. "But unfortunately the play-offs are probably a step too far for us now because of our inferior goal difference. But we've still got two games to go and I'm sure the lads will be giving me everything so we can finish the season strongly."
