Gannon: Some players failed to show up

Port Vale manager Jim Gannon admitted that not enough of his players performed to the required standard in the 1-0 defeat at Lincoln. The game looked like it would end goalless but Ashley Grimes popped up in the 86th minute to net the winner for the Imps, his sixth goal in seven starts on loan from Millwall. Gannon said: "I'm disappointed with the result. Six or seven of the lads thought they played well but three or four admitted they didn't. "We were happy enough with the structure of the team. "We got ourselves in a position where when we went 4-4-2 we could push on and win it. "That didn't happen and we made ourselves more vulnerable. It was fatal. "They are all difficult games but you need eight or nine players on their game. Six or seven is not enough."
