Gannon seeks striker swoop

New Port Vale boss Jim Gannon is hoping to add at least one new face to his squad this week, with a striker firmly at the top of his agenda. Gannon was appointed at the helm last Thursday, just a day after the club lost talismanic top scorer Marc Richards for six weeks to a thigh muscle tear. Vale`s interest in signing Lloyd Owusu cooled early this week, with registration issues also causing difficulties, and now Gannon is busy scouring the loan market - with someone to help lead the club`s promotion charge in Richards` absence his number one target. "I was always going to be mindful of looking at players early this week who could strengthen and on the back of a few days training and the match, I feel better equipped to have an understanding of my own players and then be able to make a better informed decision about what kind of players we need to bring in," he told Valiant Player. "I`ll be a busy man for the next couple of days, it would be nice to think we`d have at least one body by the end of the week but it`s got to be the right player to add something to the team. "With Marc Richards being out injured and our only natural centre-forward being Justin Richards then it`s certainly a key requirement for us to make sure we have that extra body up front, somebody who can score goals and certainly who can add to us at this level."
