Gannon hopes for Pope visit

Port Vale boss Jim Gannon is confident of having a new face on board by the weekend, with Rotherham striker Tom Pope heavily linked to a switch. Gannon remains keen to further strengthen his ranks having seen Vale`s promotion charge grind to a halt over recent weeks, and 25-year-old boyhood Vale fan Pope could be the latest recruit. Gannon told Vale`s official website: "I`ve got a particular target I want and I`ll find out on Thursday whether we have got an answer from him. A couple of other things have come up now that give us other options. "It is likely that if I don`t get the longer-term target that I want, I will go for a temporary target and I am confident I will have one of them in for the weekend. "There could be progress regarding Tom Pope, especially as Ronnie (Moore, Rotherham manager) has been able to strengthen his own squad, so that`s made Tom Pope available. "Like I said, when everything went quiet I started to look at other clubs and other players. We will have feedback on one or two targets and then we should be able to bring in a player."
