Fraser handed Vale captaincy
Midfielder Fraser was Micky Adams' first signing having arrived back in June following his release from Brighton, and he will now take the armband from Sam Stockley.
Adams told the club's official website: "I've gone for Tommy because he is a good talker on the pitch, he shows leadership qualities with the way he performs. He is in the hub of the team right in the middle of the pitch and I think he will encourage and get the best out of everybody."
Fraser himself added: "It obviously means a lot to me. It's a hell of an honour, especially at the age of 21, but then again I have been around the first team since the age of 16 and I'm ready to rise to the challenge.
"The captain from last season, Sam Stockley, has spoken to me about it. We've had a chat and it's all fine, he has given me some good advice which was nice of him. I've only known the lads for a couple of months but they have all reacted quite well so it's not that much of a big deal."
Meanwhile, Adams has expressed disappointed that trialist goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson has had to leave the club in search of a contract elsewhere, with Vale lacking the funds to offer him a deal. Adams has also ended his interest in fellow trialist Kevin Thornton.
