First-teamers get Vale run-out

Port Vale`s reserve side preserved their unbeaten start to the season on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United. Vale, top of the Central Division, did not include Lewis Haldane within their ranks as he looks to step up his lengthy rehabilitation and get some much-needed match fitness under his belt. But the likes of Chris Martin, Kris Taylor, Ritchie Sutton, Doug Loft, Rob Taylor and Tommy Fraser were all on show at Vale Park. It was Kristian Cox who turned neatly to volley the hosts into the lead shortly after the half-hour mark. Rob Taylor then did well to latch onto a throughball and beat the advancing Richard Wright to double the lead midway through the second half. The Blades reduced their two-goal deficit almost immediately but Vale held on to continue their impressive start to the season and give manager Micky Adams plenty of food for thought as he ponders where his promised changes will come ahead of Saturday`s home clash against Gillingham.
