No winner in pre-Christmas cracker

High-fliers Cheltenham and Port Vale shared the points in a pre-Christmas cracker at Whaddon Road that finished 1-1 after two quick-fire goals.

A fifth goal of the season for Darren Carter handed the home side a second half lead but Louis Dodds levelled within five minutes meaning the sides second and third had to settle for a point.

It was the Robins who dominated the chances in the first half with Chris Zebroski skewing a header across goal when well placed before Carter forced visiting keeper Chris Neal into a low save.

But their best chance came just before half-time when Jake Taylor's shot was helped on by Zebroski but the striker failed to find the target from six yards.

Vale's best effort of the half fell to former Cheltenham winger Ashley Vincent who let fly from just outside the area only for Scott Brown to deny him with a smart save.

The home side continued to create chances after the break with Billy Jones hitting the post and Marlon Pack having a header cleared off the line.

Taylor was denied by an excellent Neal save before Carter finally found the net on 62 minutes, Zebroski the provider.

But the lead lasted just five minutes, Dodds netting the equaliser after a Tom Pope header had been well saved by Brown.
