Brightwell: Vale were disappointing

John McCombe put Vale ahead after 26 minutes of Saturday's League Two clash at Vale Park, but the Hatters fought back with goals from Asa Hall, Kevin Gallen and Chris Martin to secure all three points. About 100 disgruntled Vale fans protested against manager Dean Glover and the club's board outside the ground before kick-off - and they were joined by three times that number after the final whistle. Glover chose not to face the press after the match and instead sent out Brightwell, who is set to be replaced by Keith Downing early next week. And he said: "It was a very disappointing result and performance and all of the lads are upset with how they have played. They are honest lads who work hard and do their best, but the hardest part of being a footballer is when you don't perform to the best of your ability. "We didn't play at the levels we did in winning at Macclesfield on Wednesday and it is impossible to explain why. What we can say is Luton looked a good team on the day. We had a spell in the first half when we went ahead and nearly scored again, but that was about it."
