Brightwell farewell to Valiants

Brightwell was brought into Vale's coaching staff back in October, although boss Dean Glover had earmarked Downing as his number one choice to be assistant-manager. Brightwell, who left Vale at the weekend, told The Sentinel: "When I arrived I understood the agreement and I knew Dean had been interested in Keith, who had other issues to sort out (with Cheltenham). "I found out I was leaving the club last week. Dean has been open and honest and that's all I've asked for. It's sad, but I knew the situation when I came here and I've enjoyed it. "It's given me the chance to come back to a place where I've worked before and I've got a lot of feeling for this club. I'm grateful to Dean for giving me the opportunity and I've enjoyed working with the players and the manager. I definitely want to stay in coaching."
