Adams, who signed Birchall when managing at both Coventry and Brighton, is on a reported three-man shortlist to take over from Dean Glover after he was released from his position at the end of the recent campaign, with an announcement expected next week. And Birchall, who made close to 100 appearances for Vale in a five-year spell, has urged the club to appoint the former Fulham and Leicester boss. "Like every Vale fan, I want the best for the club and I think it would be a massive thing for Vale to get him. He's an excellent man-manager who just makes you feel good about playing," he told the Sentinel. "He will work on your strengths and weaknesses, but highlights the weaknesses in a good way so it doesn't knock your confidence." "As a young player, you can speak to him without being scared of him. At Coventry, he was always good working with the younger players and I am sure he would do well for Vale."
