The Vale stopper has been slowly stepping up his rehabilitation since breaking his leg against Chesterfield back in March, forcing him to miss the end of last season and the beginning of this campaign. But, wearing the captain's armband, Anyon put in a commanding and assured display on his comeback, completing the full 90 minutes as Vale came from behind to earn their first point of the campaign thanks to Dave Howland's 87th-minute free-kick. James Lawrie also made his return for the Valiants after his appendix operation while the transfer-listed Ross Davidson started having been on loan at Stafford Rangers.
