Anxious wait for Vale youngsters

Goalkeeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston and midfielders Paul Dixon and Danny Edwards all shone at Vale Park as the club's youth side saw off Rushden and Diamonds 3-1 to claim the Midland Youth Cup on Tuesday night for a second successive year. Dean Glover and head youth coach Mark Grew are believed to be keen to offer the trio pro terms, however, with the uncertainty surrounding the club's finances due to the current economic climate, contract discussions have been put on hold until a budget for next season can be established. Grew told The Sentinel: "The financial situation in football means a lot of clubs are delaying decisions. "They can't commit to their youth players, which is not good for them. It's not good for me either because they have been part of my life for two years and I feel sorry for them." Sam Lovatt, James Lawrie and Andrew Osei Siribour all found the net as Vale withstood strong pressure and relied on a bit of luck to claim the cup.
