Adams: Vale must be improving

The visitors played most of the game on the back foot against an in-form Vale side, who were aiming for a third straight victory.

Craig Davies, making his full debut on loan from Brighton, was thwarted on several occasions by busy Macclesfield keeper Jon Brain. And the former Vale stopper also made a fine save to keep out a 20-yard effort from Marc Richards.

Adams said: "There was one team trying to win the game and the other trying not to get beat. That's a compliment to us and shows we must be improving.

"The players worked their socks off and tried to pass it on a difficult surface. We made a few chances, but perhaps not as many clear chances as we might have done.

"I'm not going to criticise the players because they are working exceptionally hard and I can see the improvement in them, both individually and collectively."
