Adams: Vale deserved victory

Port Vale manager Micky Adams was delighted his side were the winners in a game he thought was "a terrific advert for the division" following their 2-1 victory over Wycombe. The Valiants opened the scoring when Rob Taylor's left-wing cross was neatly side-footed into the path of the John McCombe, who bundled the ball into the net from point-blank range. The Wanderers equalised after Dave Winfield headed in Stuart Beavon's left-wing corner but Adams saw his side wrap up the win as McCombe`s scuffed volley found the back of the net. Adams said: "It was a great result from a cracking game. I thought it was a terrific advert for the division because the game had a bit of everything. "I thought we deserved the victory because we created numerous good chances and on another day could have scored more goals. But Wycombe are a talented team who came here to have a go and you could see why they have won so many away games. "It was also a very important win. There was a danger we could have slipped out of the top three if we hadn't won, so I'm delighted we've beaten a good side and stay in second place."
