Adams proud of Vale character

Adams felt the stinging criticism which followed Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Barnet was "over the top" and is convinced his players are making progress.[LNB]Vale laid the foundations for victory inside the opening 15 minutes courtesy of Ian Pearce's own goal and strikes from Rob Taylor and Craig Davies, while Marc Richards also missed a penalty. John McCombe then added a fourth after the break.[LNB]"In terms of application and the way the players went about their business, we were first class," said Adams. "It was an amazing first five minutes and it has turned out to be a comfortable night for us. I'm very pleased with the boys and to have put the Barnet game to bed.[LNB]"I felt a lot of the criticism after Saturday was unfair and it hurt. But the players have bounced back and we could easily have had five or six goals.[LNB]"It was also important to win at home because we had lost the previous two and the seeds of doubt can creep in if you are not careful."[LNB][LNB]
