Adams positive despite draw

Port Vale manager Micky Adams remained upbeat despite seeing his team surrender the lead to draw 1-1 against Chesterfield. Marc Richards had put Vale in front after 12 minutes and the Valiants looked good value to take all three points until Dwayne Mattis popped up with 11 minutes remaining to level. Adams felt his side should have taken all three points but was content with a draw after witnessing some encouraging signs during the clash at Vale Park. "We picked up a point and there is a lot to be positive about. Some of our football in the first half was excellent and we've come through a tough week unbeaten," said Adams. "Of course we should have won, but if you don't take your chances at vital times the game of football can come back and bite you. "We were still in the ascendancy at the start of the second half, but then we got a little bit nervous. We sat back a bit and got caught. "But we will keep going. There is a long journey ahead and we won't feel sorry for ourselves. We will get back to work on Monday and there is a reserve game on Tuesday when we will get 90 minutes into a few of the lads who haven't featured so far."
