Adams ponders Vale team options

The Valiants boss introduced defender Sam Stockley, midfielder Anthony Griffith and loan striker Lewis Haldane for Tuesday night's Carling Cup defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe and all three players impressed. That leaves Adams pondering whether to recall any or all of rested trio Adam Yates, Rob Taylor and Louis Dodds. Goalkeeper Joe Anyon made his first start in midweek for the reserves since breaking his leg back in March and it remains to be seen whether he will win a place on Vale's bench for the trip to Meadow Lane. Jamie Lawrie also returned from his appendix operation in the 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury, while transfer-listed Ross Davidson started the encounter having been on loan at Stafford Rangers and could be in contention to face County. Assistant player/manager Geoff Horsfield remains sidelined for another couple of weeks with a groin strain.
